The Lust List: Jewelry Edition

Thus far, this blog has focused primarily on clothing and sustainability; but let’s not forget that “fashion” encompasses way more than just clothing! That being said, I thought I’d do a different kind of “lust list” for this week’s blog post – all sustainable and ethically produced jewelry! As holiday season approaches, let’s make sure that we’re spending on pieces that our people and our environment will love and appreciate.

P.S. Look forward to a Sustainable Gift Guide coming up in December!

Zoë Chicco – 14K Dangle Itty Bitty Star Charm Huggie Hoop

I’ve always been a huge Zoë Chicco fan, but I had no clue about their sustainability practices before I started doing a bit of digging for this post! What a happy surprise! All of her pieces are crafted out of 100% recycled 14 karat gold; and all the gemstones are ethically sourced. Everything is made in-house at her studio in Los Angeles. She oversees each and every step of the jewelry making process.

Poppy Finch – White Topaz Chain Ring

Based out of Vancouver, Canada, Poppy Finch works to create quality, sustainable and ethically sourced pieces in which you’ll want to invest! All their gemstones are sourced from trusted suppliers and the pieces are highly inspected before use. On top of that, each and every piece is created by in Vancouver by local craftsmen.

Catbird – Diamond Pinprick Necklace

I discovered Catbird the summer after my sophomore year of college. I was bumbling around Williamsburg, Brooklyn with my family and I just happened upon the lovely, little store. Honestly, I’d love to have each and every piece of jewelry that they sell; so, it was unbelievably difficult to pick just one! Everything at Catbird is sourced with conflict-free gold and diamonds. This necklace in particular features a recycled drilled diamond. Each and every piece is made out of their studios in New York!

Mejuri – Single Colored Mini Hoop – 14K Yellow Gold/White Sapphire

Mejuri has also been one of my favorite jewelry brands. Similar to Zoë Chicco, I had no idea about their sustainability practices until I started doing some digging! I must be honest – I’m starting to feel less guilty about lusting after these beautiful pieces! Mejuri takes responsibility seriously – 60% of their suppliers and production partners are certified by the Responsible Jewelry Council, which is “the international standard bearer for ensuring supply chain sustainability, labor rights and integrity across the jewelry industry” (“Behind Our Fine Jewelry,” 2020, para. 2). The remaining 40% are highly-reviewed family-run businesses.

WWAKE – Pearl Collage Necklace

WWAKE is one of my favorite high-end jewelry brands. These pieces are more like artwork than they are pieces of jewelry. I have one earring from them, and I wear it literally every single day. Everything that they create is just beautiful. All the pieces are locally made in New York. They actively work to design their pieces around low-impact materials – so, recycled diamonds, gold and heritage gemstones. They are passionate about transparency and ensure that they solely work with partners who maintain the same ethics and sustainability standards that they practice.

If you’re looking for something sparkly to splurge on this season, these pieces are not only beautiful but also sustainable and responsible!

We love it!

Bye for now,

McGee
