Editorial Projects

The following is a group of projects from the MEJO 490 Workroom FashionMash Editorial class exploring a number of concepts, both style-focused and social-focused. Students wrote the ideas, then cast, styled, shot, and handled post-production.

UNWEARABLE

A series of shoots that discuss how often fashion is not about clothes, but more about how clothes impact our lives.

Group 1. Fashion and the End of Childhood

Today’s overwhelming social media-based society takes the “little girl” out of little girl clothing. In this shoot, the team looks at how what we wear often pushes young girls to grow up too fast.

Group 2. Are we tech?

Do we all succumb to the tech of the moment, and if so, were does what we wear end and our bodies begin?

Group 3.

In a world of overconsumption, are we fueling our self expression at the expense of the planet? How do we break out of the pattern?

Group 4.

Skincare disappears into our pores, making what’s under our skin as layered and product-driven as what’s on the outside.

Group 5. Just Don’t

Nike tries to motivate us through active clothing. But sometimes it’s just too comfy for anything more than couch surfing.

Group 6. Married to the Mode

The more you buy, the more you need. This is the story of a marriage to satisfy our constant need for fashion novelty. Beautiful, disposable.

PROPPED UP

A series of fashion shoots where props are integrated into the styling to define space, architecture, texture, and design in ways that delight and intrigue.

HIGHLY REFERENCED

This shoot series used the infamous “Two Fridas” by Frida Khalo as a reference point to talk about duality. The shoot featured specific designers honoring the artist as part of the start of Latino Heritage Month 2022. Using references and understanding fashion’s relationship to art history was a core message here.
